Maternity Services
When you’re having a baby, you want everything to be just perfect. And nobody understands that better than we do. At Shady Grove Adventist Hospital, we talked with hundreds of moms, dads, doctors and nurses to find out what they wanted from their birth experience. The result: state-of-the-art maternity services and the warm, relaxing atmosphere of home. Our birth suites are designed to cater to your every need.
We have a Level III-B Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for high-risk deliveries. And we have a well-trained staff of board-certified obstetricians, neonatologists, perinatalogists and a lactation consultant, as well as nurses specially certified in neonatal care and inpatient obstetrics.
When You're Expecting
At Shady Grove Adventist Hospital, we can help you plan the birth experience that's right for you and your baby. We believe that if you know what to expect during childbirth and can make informed decisions about labor, birth and parenting, you will feel more confident and comfortable during the birth experience.
We offer a wide range of parent education programs, including tours of the hospital and courses on labor and delivery, parenting, baby care, breastfeeding, cesarean birth and vaginal birth after cesarean. Classes are also available for siblings and grandparents.
Labor & Delivery
Our labor & delivery suites are designed to make the birth experience joyful and memorable, with a home-like environment that is fully supported by state-of-the-art equipment, compassionate care and expert physicians. The suites also allow mothers to give birth without being moved from one room to another.
In addition to your personal physician or midwife, our patients can depend on 24-hour coverage by board-certified obstetricians, anesthesiologists, pediatricians and nurses--all of whom are available at a moment's notice.
Once Your Baby is Born
After delivery, moms and their baby will be transferred to our Mother/Baby Unit with new all private rooms.
In the Mother/Baby Unit, our nurses are there to help you with your baby. They’ll also make rounds throughout the day to check on your baby, take your temperature, pulse and respiration, and provide ice packs and sitz baths, as needed. Your nurse can assist with breastfeeding issues and there are also certified lactation consultants available for individual consultations and daily inpatient support groups.
High-Risk Pregnancies and Deliveries
It’s a comfort to know that your hospital is fully prepared for high-risk births. Staffed with highly skilled perinatalogists (high-risk obstetricians), our Antepartum Unit provides care to women who require inpatient medical supervision during pregnancy. For preemies and babies who experience problems at birth, we have a Level III-B Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), staffed around-the-clock with neonatologists and neonatal nurses who specialize in caring for the smallest of patients.
Private Mother-Baby Suites
We offer all private Mother-Baby suites so that you and your family may share this special moment together. In addition, a family friendly enviroment has been created with a family lounge that features a flat screen tv, computers with Internet access, a kitchenette, and plenty of space for growing families. Plus, you can snuggle into your own space with lots of welcome services.
