The Transportation and Lodging Fund

The Transportation and Lodging Fund was established with generous donations from Potomac Ridge Behavioral Health System employees. This fund responded to a well-documented need to engage families in treatment planning.

The Residential Treatment Program (RTC) in Rockville and Anne Arundel provides intermediate residential care for male and female adolescents who have serious behavioral and emotional problems. We receive referrals from all 23 counties and Baltimore City throughout Maryland.

The ability to involve families in treatment planning is often one of the best predictors of successful outcomes. The problem is that many families are unable to attend treatment planning or visit for any extended period because they do not have the transportation or the financial resources to arrange for it.

Furthermore, to the extent that families can spend overnights, i.e., Friday – Sunday is an opportunity to engage them much more extensively in the treatment planning process. Treatment is as much about healing the child as it is healing the family.

It is enough that families are already dealing with the emotional stress that their child is being placed in “residential treatment”, often hundreds of miles from home. In recognizing this, donations from our employees, and now, others outside the organization have removed these financial barriers.
