About Potomac Ridge

Mental illness is shockingly common. One in four of us will suffer from depression, anxiety, or have thoughts of suicide at some point during our life. Most people are not aware that mental illness is more common than heart disease and cancer combined. There is something else that many of us do not know – mental illness is a treatable disease.  And, the most formidable obstacle to progress is stigma. In fact, new research shows that the delay between diagnosis and treatment is, on average, seven years.  We must overcome the stigma association with mental illness to ensure those in need feel comfortable enough to seek treatment early on.

In 1981, Potomac Ridge Behavioral Health System began as a one-hospital facility treating adolescents and adults diagnosed with mental illness.  As we celebrate over 25 years in the community, , we are leading the way with the most comprehensive  behavioral health services for children, adolescents, adults and seniors. Our spectrum of services include, acute care, residential treatment, school programs, group homes, outpatient, and community-based services.
